I have a Jonsered 630 that I'm going to be putting a closed port 268 cylinder on. I would like to cut a popup. Has anyone had any problems when cutting the base? I'm mainly thinking about the carb hitting the case. Has anyone dropped the cylinder .050-.060? If you have, did you have to grind a hole in the case so that the carb will bolt up. I just ordered a cylinder off ebay, that's the reason I'm asking and not checking for myself.

I'd like to go ahead and order a piston. If I can lower the cylinder without having to grind through the case for the carb, I'm going to get a Metoer and cut it. If I can't take it down without making a hole, I'm going to order a popup from Lil Red Barn and take as much off it as I can.

I guess I don't need to order a piston, I just found a 266 piston that I made up awhile back. Any reason not to use a 266 piston in a 268?

After thinking about it, I decided to order a Meteor 268 piston. I thought that the way the 266 piston is full circle at the bottom may restrict flow a bit.

I woulda just used that one if you already had it made up. Lots of saws need the case clearances when you drop the jug a bit. Mock it up and see what hits ore puts pressure on the intake

I going to mock it up and see how much clearance I have under the carb. I dont mind grinding a little to make it fit.

I figured I couldn't go wrong with the correct Meteor piston. I saw the Hyway pop up but with shipping they cost more than the Meteor.

I ended up putting a Tecomec/Chinese 272 on it and cut a little over .050 off the base, plenty of room under the carb. I'm going to change the title in case someone else has the same question about the 272 and make the answer easier to find. When I put the 268 cylinder on my 61 I'll update with the results.
