On todays installment of piddly things only I complain about. I've had a little Husky 129 weedeater for awhile and it works great. Only thing that irritates me is, the fan blows hot air out of the hole on top for the spark plug right into my forearm. Compared to my Echo and Shindaiwa machines, it has no cooling vents in the housing behind the cylinder. I wonder if I could get a used housing from Fleabay and cut some vents in it so the hot air would go out here? Might this cause a problem in some way? The machine is still under warranty so I'm not about to start experimenting on the original parts.

Found a used rear recoil housing for 10.00 and ordered it, suppose I'll do some experimenting with it. Used the 129 more last night and it cuts great, excellent $150.00 weedeater. I've seen crappy Troy Bilt and Craftsman weedeaters that cost more.

The Echo and Husky consumer weedeaters use the same engines as their smaller commercial units. The main difference is no antivibe and cable driven head, I've always had good success with them.

Ok, the used rear housing showed up. So Im thinking I can just cut a vent in the area that has the silver heat shield, and that should cause the hot air to vent there instead of out the spark plug area. Notice how the bottom part of the housing has vents and the top part around the jug does not.

Ok, I cut a hole in the spare cover and it is definitely venting a lot of hot air through it. Not sure what Husky was thinking there but it works alot better now!

Stopped by the Husky dealer on the way to work and asked him about this. He said no one had ever complained about this problem to him before, but thought that cutting a hole behind the cylinder was a good idea and could only help.

I believe that I'd want to feel a bit of air still flowing at the spark plug opening.
Top of cylinder will get too hot without keeping some air across it.
