My trimmer all of the sudden sputtered out while I was using it. Couldn't get it to start after that.
It would run with the choke fully open for a bit but wouldn't stay running.
Here's what I've done to try and resolve the situation.
  • Replaced spark plug
  • replaced air filter
  • replaced fuel filter
  • drained gas and replaced with a premixed 50:1 fuel/oil.
The previous gas was kind of green. I put some gas water remover in the old batch but that didn't seem to help. Hence the new gas.

Any idea what's next to look at here?

Pull the muffler and see if the piston is scored up.

Tried cleaning the carb, no luck.
Replaced the carburetor and it fired right up!

Be sure to check your fuel lines too if you havent already. Often times crusty fuel lines will disintegrate once the fresh fuel soaks in.

UPDATE: It fired up and I was able to use it for a bit but whenever I went 'full throttle' it chugged and then died out. Tried adjusting the idle speed but couldn't find the sweet spot on it.
Fuel lines?
I'd say maybe adjust the carburetor fuel/air mix but it came from the factory ready to go.

Nothing comes from the factory ready to go. It must be tuned for you location.

Is it a Zama or Walbro carb? I would see if you can find the baseline settings for the carb model and then adjust from there. I had to do that with the new carb on a weedeater I just rebuilt. On this particular one, Walbro WT-638, initial settings were 1.5 turns out each. Ended up with something like 1-3/4 turns out on low and 2 turns out on high.

I think it's a Zama
