I'd like to know if anybody knows the differences between the two.

They have different Cylinder #

550 # 590 33 05-02
545 # 590 33 05-04

but same piston kit for both 582 64 56-02

Also included is a comparison from the Husky USA site. The 545 has less cylinder displacement than the 550.

I assume the differences are in the transfer caps. Does anyone know if they are smaller like the 562/555 transfer port caps or have restrictions like the 372/365 Xtorqs?

That cylinder displacement must be a typo. That’s torque measured in NM.

I was wondering about that. I was thinking that the marketing dept was using some kind of calculation based on smaller transfers to get different numbers.

It's also the same with the 572/565. Different cylinder #'s with same piston kit.

572 # 590 15 03-01
565 # 590 15 03-02

Piston kit for both # 576 62 67-04

I assume the covers for 550 fits the 545 if you would like to speed that saw up a bit?

Thanks for reply, no those are not sold separate but they can be nicked from a toasted 550 top end of same generation. Time for some scrambling trough the junkpile to see if i have one lying around :)

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I thought this info best belonged here. Here is a picture of the difference between the 545 and 550 transfer plates. I didn't see any difference between the depths or widths of the two plates but what I did find was that the end that was nearest the bottom of the cylinder had more restriction. The ramp was significantly larger on the 545 which would close off a larger portion of the transfer channel. In the pictures, the 545 is on the bottom in the first photo and on the right in the second photo.

Quite likely, converting a 545 plate to a 550 plate would simply consist of some basic filing.
