Hello
I'm begining to chase my dream of becoming a logger so i would need a chainsaw a bit lighter than my current 066. I came across a 390 husky in a fairly nice condition and it caught my eye. So i am asking what are your thoughts about this comparison and what are the pros and cons of a 390.
The back story of my 066 is i bought it to try out a 90cc saw class because it is rare in my area(mainly 20-ish inch trees and there is not much logging in my area so i am going to move to the better area) and that 066 ended up being a lemon which needed alot of work.

I’m not a logger, but 20” wood is perfect for a 60-70cc saw. Husqvarna and Stihl both have loads of options. If you’ve got the money, a Stihl 462 would be my recommendation. Weight of a 60cc and the speed of a 70

A 390 isn’t any lighter than a 660. 16.1 (390xp) vs 16.3 pounds (ms660) and the 390 holds more fluids. So it’s pretty much a wash when both are filled up I imagine. Both heavy saws and power is fairly close between the two provided they are both in good health. The 390 does have better filtration and the spring AV is easier on the hands. Your better off with a 70cc saw for your needs though by the sound of it.

So to clear up the confusion.
I dont need a saw for 20 inch wood or smaller that is in my area. I will be needing a bigger saw because i will be moving in the area with bigger wood(probably in the range od 32')
My apologise for badly written post.
So i will try to make a better question.
Is a 390 better saw than 066 in the aspect of reliability, power, durability. Or should i fix up the 066.
Or will the saw in the range of ms440 or 372xp be plenty.
My budget is not huge so i cant afford a new saw.

If you’re cutting 32” wood, I’d recommend fixing the 066. The 390 is similar to the 066 is most aspects but the 066 is a more powerful saw that’s better for bigger wood. I’d also try looking for a used 394 or 395

Welcome to the forum fellow Croat :)
Maybe a complete overhaul of the 066 would work, as I did with my MS650, best decision ever :D
Paid itself back over 3 times in the first month.
Always work for a qualified feller with a big saw. The big stroke 066 saw will mill much better. The 390 is smoother to run all day. I know what one the screws won't fall out of.

Thank you guys for your replies
So the conclusion is that it is better to fix up a 066 because its more powerful and reliable?
And if i can ask you one more question.
Which of these three saws would be better for 70cc class saw.
A brand new husky 365 xt(in my area they are a fraction of a price more expensive than these used saws), used but in ok condition 044/440 or 372xp in the same condition.

Agree on 066 verses 390 . 066 is way stronger saw ( 660 not so much) . I would go for a new 365 and do a muffler mod and base gasket delete, very strong and reliable saw , wish I had never sold mine .

Thank you for the advice.
The 365 option always attracted me the most because first and foremost its a new saw and i wont need to replace half the *s-word on her to make her work in the first place(talking to you 066 you dirty bastard ).
How is the 365 on the bar lenghts?
Does it like a 24 inch bar?

If you cut the baffles out of the transfers it’s pretty much the same saw as a 372xt... do a muff mod too. Will run a 24” well if you do those things.

I run an 365 with a 24in, handles it very well, plenty of power cutting 20in + hardwoods here. I like an 044 better, mainly the compactness and the way it handles.
I love the power of an 066 - ms660. In the biggest wood I cut ,the 395xp feels awesome though. Compactness and handling I prefer the stihls though.
I have or had all the saws i mentioned.

If your maintenance minded, a 390 will suit you well, but the instant you let screws rattle out of her, the top cover, muffler and starter will fall off! The 66 is a solid saw that does well with a simple bolt on dual port muffler cover, but the air filters suck. Just gotta clean the filter once a day, the husky I can go for weeks without cleaning.
Big plus with Husqvarna is cost of parts. Stihl parts are insanely expensive in comparison

What did you end up doing? 365? 390? 066?
