What can y'all tell me about a 246, I've never even heard of one, is it the predecessor to the 346? Better? Worse? Value? Things to look for?

Acres site says it free wheels at 15,000. That's pretty fast for factory.

Same chassis as the 238, 42, and 242. The 246 was open port but don't let that stop you, light and nimble little saw that punches above it's weight. With a base gasket delete and a muffler mod they will hang with any modern 50cc saw IMO.

My fathers favorite saw in the tree, light nimble with very good chain speed. You don't see a ton of them around any more. Single bar nut, decent platform (it's a 2 series husky after all) I'd say it's built better than the 346, but that's just me. Hard to say on value but i would certainly be interested in another one.

175$ is a bargain, but then, I'm kinda a fan of 242/246!

246.....jug is made by Gilardoni, 241A, those markings are found on the PTO side.
246 is shorter and lighter then 346 OE, I take it anyday over the 346, ported or non ported!
Easiest gain a 246 get is advanced timing and MM, if you choose to remove the head gasket you also has to sand of the squish band a tad.

As Joe said, parts are the only issue they have. Top end kit, piston, PTO seal, crank, PTO bearing is NLA.
Here is though a good thing, Meteor has started to make pistons for them, bought one piston and quality was superb.

I really want it but its 2.5 hours away from me. I don't know it would be worth the drive unless the female would want to make a day of it.

2.5 hour away....most of the times I've never got them so close, them 242/246's starts to be very rare as runners nowadays.
It difficult to say out from just those 2 pics, but it doesnt look to be one abused 246, if the bottom and the chainside is just as pretty, and no scoring, I belive 175$ is a very good deal.

IMG_0026.jpg IMG_0024.jpg And I even talked him into a piston pic, story goes, original owner, used it for 1 year for firewood before moving to town, used it a year ago to cut down a tree for a friend. Now it's for sale.

Needless to say I'm working Saturday midnight shift and promptly leaving Sunday morning when I get off work to pick it up.

Best part my fiance offered to drive! She gets me...... :p
