This applies to the xl 12 model also seal part number is SKF 6119.
First you need a flat head screw driver or a 5/16 socket to remove the four bolts holding the recoil on.
Second you need a 1/2 socket to remove the flywheel bolt use a piston stop or length of rope to prevent it from spinning threads are right hand.
Third clean around the crankshaft using brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner and a shop rag
Forth using a old flat head screw driver, drive the flat head under the lip of the seal between the seal and crankshaft. Work the screw driver up and down till the old seal pops out be careful to not damage the housing and crankshaft.
Fifth Clean the area around where the old seal was to not get dirt or grit in the bearing.
Sixth take the new seal and apply some anaerobic gasket maker around the outside of the seal a little goes a long ways.
