20” Stihl 23RS (.325” NK) on a ported 2156/357xp. Thinking limbing and play, not burying it bucking.
Those chains generate a narrower kerf, lesser wood to remove = faster cutting.Liking these new to me small chains, this and picco
More chain tension so the chain don't jump off the bar, please!
First go so the chain stretched. 99% of my wood is dead dry dusty…it’s a desert…More chain tension so the chain don't jump off the bar, please!
Dry wood?
Looks like a lot of dust.
Yes sir...I tried the 8 and picco 24” on the 2159, didn’t fit…ordered presets. Reckon I also need to order a spare loop of picco. @PA Dan you got any of your wicked little square stuff?
Where are you getting those rims? I'd like to get an 8 pin for my echo 490 that I setup for 3/8lp.Stihl 23rs NK 20” on ported 2156=357xp. Had to grind the tail of the bar to get the chain over the 9 pin rim…should be fun!
Below is 24” 3/8” lo pro on ported 6100. I was able to get the chain on by putting it over the bar tip sprocket, installing the rim in the chain, and sliding it onto the drum. I like internal clutches…
Narrow kerf and lots of chain speed for both, should go pretty good. I was impressed with the 24” lo pro on the 2156 a while back bucking and noodling ponderosa. View attachment 329399View attachment 329400
Definitive Dave’s ebay outlet (chainsaw conservation components) is probably your best shot. 8 pin 3/8 lp is a pretty rare find, especially for a stihl spline, which you obviously don’t need, but there’s a few floating around. Much forum debate has gone into whether std. 3/8 rim will work. I’m not sure if your saw will be improved by an 8.Where are you getting those rims? Was the 3/8 x 8 a new rim? I believe I once read/heard that a worn rim would work. I gave up on LP/Picco entirely after one tank of .325 RSPI just tried a 3/8"-8 on 3/8" low pro and it flared the DL out and they got stuck in the bar.
The 3/8lp/picco rim actually is slightly larger than the standard 3/8". 1.436" vs. 1.381 on the pair I just measured. I remember running across someone saying a worn .404 pitch rim works. I actually turned one down in the lathe and it seems to work. I still would like to find a 3/8lp/picco rim for normal small splines. Was the 3/8 x 8 a new rim?
