Hello all. I have my dad's old homelite bandit lx30 chainsaw that I wanted to replace the chain on. I don't know much about saws in general but I did a little research enough to count the drive links and I swear there are 49. But everywhere online I find chains for the bandit that are 48 drive links. I'm wondering is it possible that the wrong chain may have been installed previously? There always was a little extra slack in the chain that I could't tension out. I just assumed it was a old stretched chain but maybe not? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

You're probably right on track with the correct DL count of 48 if you couldn't tension out the slack in the chain at 49 DL's. I'd buy a 48 DL and run with it!

Thank you guys for the responses, I'm pretty sure it's a 12" bar. Thank you for the link too Steve.

So chain size isn't a super precise thing it seems? As long as your within 1 drivelink it looks like.

I was thinking of going with this chain :

Oregon S48 91SG48C Chainsaw Chain, 12"

It's from amazon for $14, I'm having trouble posting the link.

I just hope I can fit the 48 drive links on the bar...

Give it a shot, if it don't fit with the bar/chain tensioner all the way rearward to the sprocket, pack it back up and send it back to Amazon...you ain't out nothing then but a little time.
