Hi, I recently acquired a nearly complete homelite 5-30N. Problem is that the bottom of the belt housing and the bottom cover were sitting on some kind of surface that reacted with the metal and ate away chunks of it.

Does anyone have 5-30N parts sitting around? They would go towards saving this old beast. I plan to do a whole restoration with powdercoat paint job.

Just a suggestion sir. Keep the cut off or any chainsaw away from storage with direct contact of a concrete floor. If that was a concrete cut off it may of had poor cleaning during it's life.

Yep, I think that was the issue. This is my first day of ownership of this old saw, and I plan to keep it off the floor like all of my other saws.
