Ok so I built one of these and it runs pretty awesome. Used the factory cylinder and bought a hyway pop up piston for it. Timing for the saw is at 76/119/100 and pulls a 24 really well. The question I have is do these saws come with a limited coil ?? I ask because when I was trying to tune it by ear it stops 4 stroking around 12,500 so I put the tach on it and after it gets past 12,500 the tach starts reading in the 7k range. With my Dolmar 7900 the tach bounces around everywhere and you can hear the rev limiter with this saw it doesn't do that. I can't think of anything else that would cause it to basically stop leaning at 12,500 Any ideas?

Maybe this will explain it better anything over 12,600 and it does this pretty sure it's a rev limited coil ?

I have several farmertec 268/272 coils but I don't have a tach
@Stump Shot have you checked these coils with a tach?

I don't think they meant for them to be limited but the cheaper made coils have a tendency to saturate and drop sparks at a lower RPM than an OEM coil would.

An OEM coil will do the same thing but at a much higher RPM.

You think using a different aftermarket coil would eliminate this issue or would it need to be OEM ?

Surely I have and can't honestly remember anything to report.
I don't have a tach I have a few of those am coils they tuned in fine in wood I don't know the rpm range though.

Best way to do it, every saw can be off to the next one, in one way or another a little bit, tuning in wood eliminates any error.

Maybe a different AM coil could fix it. I know I've seen AM ones run out further than 12.5k. It could also be weak magnets on the flywheel.

Well that didn't work.. put the husky 55 coil on and the saw would start and idle but would not rev at all. Put the original coil back on and it revs but still no more than 12500. Weird thing is the coils look a lot different the one that cam on the holzfforma is a Walbro coil but the spark plug wire and the small wire are both run completely inside the coil instead of being hooked to connectors.
Oh well the saw holds 12k in the wood with a 24 bar and aggressive chain. I guess I should just leave well enough alone it's just irritating me.

12k in the wood? Sounds like the best running aftermarket saw ever.
