Looking for a new vice for putting on scopes and just general maintenance. The one I have does not keep the gun from moving while installing scopes.

dang sight cheaper to make your own not rocket science. And better construction than blow molded plastic that most of them are made of.

Just now seeing this...don't remember getting an alert. For the money, hard to beat the Tipton Ultra Gun Vise. Have three of 'em, paid about $115-$120 each for the first two, think the third one was just over $100, all free shipping. No idea what they're going for now...just have to google 'em and see.

I have three.
This one I've had for 35+ years and has worked fine for most applications.
I have no idea how many scopes I mounted using this vise but it's a bunch.
I also use a bubble level to make sure things stay square.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Here's my other two. Both from Tipton. The first is the vise I use the most.
The second is primarily for AR type guns and has numerous configurations and adjustments.

I second this vise, works great for scope mounting, clamp the rifle in, and use the leveling feet to dial it in.

I use a Tipton. Mines old n dirty but still works. Never tried any other brands. As for scope mounting, I'll pass along how I do them when I'm able to. After lapping and all that fun stuff, I use a machinist parallel between the rail and the flat in the bottom of the scope to get it in line

I have never spent the money on getting the stuff to lamp my rings before putting on scopes but maybe knows the time to buy a kit. I did spend the money on a wheeler level kit and a fat wrench.

@ramrat I too have been looking and following this thread. I just ordered the Tipton from Amazon. Under $75 with tax and free shipping with a couple hours left on this bonus. Saved me $12 just in shipping
