Last dome top I saw like that was from a Mercury. Splined crank through's me off.

Some type of cross scavenged 2 stroke. Looks like the old Evinrude pistons did. Spline make sense for marine, the threaded end after the spline doesn’t. Exhaust direction correct for marine, towards spline.

But, I see the saw apart on your bench.

Its a Sears and Roebuck u4d gear drive, from what I have read it was made by Roper for Sears and used a Tecumseh engine. I tore it apart to reseal the case halves.

I knew I saw that piston before. Tecumseh 5Hp air cooled outboard motor takes that slug also. Have one here in my shed :)
Rebuilt one maybe forty years ago.
