I was given a 350 with smoked piston/ cylinder. I ordered a $39 including shipping kit. I got it and it looks ok but ports are very small compared to stock, the piston is two rings instead of one and look to prevent much in way of porting because of ring pin locations. I know wish I had bought the 346 cylinder @$140. Maybe I should just chalk up the loss and do it anyways.? Your thoughts. The stock cylinder is 45mm so I could use new piston and rings if I could get it to clean up.

If you can clean up the oem 350 cylinder, do that and buy a meteor 353 piston for it. Have you figured out what was wrong with the saw that caused it to burn down? As for the 346xp cylinder option, they can make an awesome saw, but I personally wouldn't do the switch to 346xp unless you want to have someone do machine work and port the jug.

I've got a fair bit of experience with this chassis Sandy. There are so many options, so you will get many opinions. Cleaning up the stock jug and throwing a new piston in it is probably the best cost/performance balance. A couple years ago I threw together a 2152(red version) with a Hyway 45mm top end. The jug looked pretty good, and you can get a pop up piston to increase compression. @cus_deluxe has it and tells me how useful it has been for him almost every time I see him. I'm as skeptical as they come about aftermarket parts, but I feel safe recommending that setup. The 346 top end will be your best performer, ported or not. Feel free to pm me if you want to chat more.

I have used the Husky replacement clamp on several builds and the 390 clamp on one....the 390 clamp is much easier and doesn't require swear words to install.
I do my best to re-use that clamp if it’s already there but I’d never buy one and subject myself to the anger

Ok I looked it over. Carb boot clamp in place and snapped boot slides on and off cylinder flange easily so that is likely cause of melt down. Can I just cut all tabs and smooth off, then just use metal hose clamp? Anyone know what thread size cylinder base bolts are? Thanks

Yep.

I did a story on here somewhere mate. There is three versions of the riser. Two have fine thread cylinder side bolts, one has coarse.

I agree with this statement, but we know what happens when assumptions are made. There are so many places in a Husky three series clamshell sandwich for a leak to occur I highly recommend doing a pressure and vacuum check after assembly, even if you go scorched earth cleaning, replacing, and re-sealing the sandwich.

NOT trying to be a troll or anything similar with this question/statement... just trying to have a discussion. I have a 2150, which I ported, with a flat top 353 piston. Love the saw. I'm not familiar with every Jonny crossover but I'm sure the 2150 was the red 350. What's the 2152? Is that mag case 353 equivalent?

I have a 44mm OP 2150 as a "to do" but you guys seem to get 45mm CP ones Other Jason.

Yes, the 2152 is the Jred version of the 353.

I think the 2153 Jonsered was the same as the 353 Husky, the 2152 was a more tame version of the 2153, if I remember
it had a bigger bore than the 2153, I had a 2153 that I should have never sold, wicked little thing.
I think the 2150 and the 350 would be the same.
Someone who knows the exact differences will come along.

The 2153 was the Jred version of the 346xp.

Well that clears that up, I had a new 2153 and loved it, stupidly sold it, I was trying to recall
the details from way back when I read the Jonsered catalog.
What cc was the 2153
Edit: looking up the spec, the 2153 was 50cc.
Were the 2152 and 2153 sold as semi pro / farm grade saws.

I’m not sure what the 353 & 2152 were marketed as, but the 350 & 2150 filled that semi-pro/farm role. The 2153 was definitely a pro saw.

Yes, I remember my 2143 was very fast off the mark, and a real slim design too.
I went to replace it, and discovered the replacement was the Autotune saws, which I
did not want to chance, so I bought a Shindaiwa 490, they were like the 488 in the US,
that saw was torquey.
Anyway, sorry for the derail.
