That’s what I gave for mine at HD. Used it some today. I like the isocore handle better than the X27, but it wears you out swinging all day. We split roughly 2 cords by hand today. All red oak. I used the maul to 1/4 it, then the X27 to finish them up. Good 24-28” rounds, 22” long.

I saw them on Wal-Mart's site for $30. Only store listed that had any was in Schereville,IN
They are a excellent tool for their retail price. Even for 40 i would like to have an extra if it didn't involve a long drive. For 30 i,d buy 2 more.

Looking at the steel handle on dad's old Stihl maul it's a good thing we didn't have wood or fiberglass handles. I can't think of how many whoopings my brother and I should have gotten for busting handles.

I used the Sotz exclusively until about 8 years ago. Last year i used it my bones become so sensitive to the shock transfer to my once injured shoulder i developed a flinch, when i switched and got the fiskars splitting axe i would still flinch even though i was not feeling a shock transfer. It took about til this year since then to be able to use the Sotz with out extensive pain and i have no plans of switching back to it other then a few splits when a fiskars isn't handy or may be some knotty pieces now and then. I wrap and tape the steel handles with carpet padding or rubber which helps with shock but its not near as effective as any of the fiskars for shock reduction. But they will get through the tough hardwoods we have here better then any of the many hand tools i tried. I last a lot longer noodling through knots these days and usually rather enjoy cutting with my chainsaws.
