Have an FS94R on the bench and it's running very rich on the high side. Starts runs and idles nice but on the high side it doesn't want to get full rpm. I did lean out the high speed needle but it just seems too far in. Starting point per the workshop manual is 1.25 out and to get it to rev I had to close the high speed needle to .25 out. Doesn't seem right. Metering diaphragm seems fine and since I tore the gasket I ordered a carb for the hell of it. Any suggestions? Spark arrestor screen is clean, fuel is fresh mixed at 50:1 with Klotz oil.

You can't really adjust the carburetor on this machine unless you remove the guard and let the line out to about 8 inches on either side of the head. If it's any shorter, then it hits the rev limiter too easy. Are you sure you're not hitting the rev limiter?

Weak metering spring? Bad jet?

I'll update everyone when I get the new carb. Machine really hasn't had much done to it since new. Machine is quite old. Early this spring I did the first service with new fuel filter, air filter and plug. Piston looks like new through the exhaust port. Definitely not hitting rev limiter. To get it to rev I really had to lean out the carb. Definitely super rich due to the nasty oily exhaust. Carb is a Zama rotary barrel style. Not really my forte.

Got the new carb on and it fired right up. Put the air filter and cover on, fired it up, nailed the throttle and same as before. Pulled air filter off and installed cover, fired it up and it ran great. Looks like the new air filter I installed over the winter was crap and it was an OEM one. Gonna get another one and it should be good.

Picked up a new air filter after work and it's all good. I called him and told him the carb and air filter are on the house.
