I am rebuilding this engine, a Tecumseh LEV80, that was given to me. It had the crankshaft thread snapped, from using an impact wrench, and overdoing it, when tightening the flywheel. The previous owner said it kept shearing the flywheel key, just by running the mower, not hitting anything, so making the flywheel tighter would solve the issue. Obviously this solution did not work. It's been lying around for a while, and I finally got motivated to repair it. Upon disassembly, with a new crankshaft on order, I noticed the brake pad on the flywheel brake is almost gone. I am surprised, as this engine was not used that much. It's almost like new. I see no replacement pad listed for this, on the diagram. Do I have to buy a replacement brake assembly, or is there another fix?

If the friction pad is "bonded" (glued) then It's not likely considered a replaceable component.
Being as it was a safety item and subject to being mentioned in someones lawsuit, I suspect it is dealt with as a "replace the entire assembly" item, no matter how the pad is mounted.
Tecumseh went out of business {and some assets apparently were purchased by (?)someone(?) who(?)} at some point.
So parts may be a little hit or miss to find now.

I've Never used these folks, so I have NO clue what they're like to deal with.
The website has some diagrams at least. Might want to verify if they have the parts before trying to order.

I have a 4.5 hp Tecumseh that came off a LB that I bet will have the part you need if you'd like to go that route.

Searching ebay, I see several used brake assemblies, in the $10 range. I may have to go that route then, since mine would be considered unrepairable. Thank you.
