Who’s got one? How long? How is it powered? How long does firewood dry out under the pile, vs stacked?

Stacking is one of my least favorite activities. I know my grandpa used to stack wood until he ran a conveyor. And that was back in the 70’s. Im just cerious if the middle will dry decent or not?

If ya "needed" a splitter...then ya "NEED" a conveyor.... da end.

Seriously.
there's other factors in the "middle" of the pile-dry fight. Whats it on ?...where is it at...? winds ? temps ? How high is pile ? Species ? Sunlight ? ect...all are variables but once you run a Conveyor on a "high production" splitter then you'll wonder why it took so long to git cher self one...(then a longer one...)

so if your splitting > 10 full cords and or moving said cordage....then a conveyor is the bomb. If your doing production then it takes the labor of a man/operator....so at $20 an hour....you do the math.

if your close to "power" then an electric/hyro is sweet noise wise. but gas powered when away from service will do.

Ive got carpal tunnel wrists and old shoulders that complain when I toss a days firewood. So that's where I've formed my opinion. 12' is better then O' and 16" seems to be the "F350" of the sweet spot but again that depends on what you are tossing in to.

This idea isn’t for production. Just my personal collection. Obviously one long windrow only 6 feet tall would dry easier then a single dome. And a windrow I can make with a splitter, just keep moving the splitter down the line. Maybe I’ll try and find a young kid and pay him to stack it for me.

Homemade questions:
I have one; 28'; Honda power GX 160; belted, hydraulic top drum drive, hydraulic lift (added later). I bought it used and the brand is Built-Rite, out of Vermont.
Note: About a 45 degree angle of repose, which means a 10' high pile will have about a 20' diameter, and I'd estimate six cords for split wood.

I'm in S.W. Michigan. More than half of the wood does not dry out in a pile, it molds here if on the ground. May be different if piled on pavement, but not sure.

Very little dries "on the ground" no matter where... pallets are yer friend...my friend. We have a big time outfit who stacks on blacktop and seems to do alright but most folks around these parts have never seen true "seasoned" wood so....they just dont know.

I have a 16' feed conveyor that I converted into a firewood conveyor. I is powered by a gas engine.

I made this video on my YouTube channel. I was back to the middle of the pile when I checked the wood.

Answers my questions for sure. I would be stacking on so with other then ground. I have access to rubber conveyor belting. I seen I guy had all his “outdoor storage” sitting on this belting and it had no weeds growing up. It will obviously keep the moisture from coming up at bay too.

Definitely interesting results. Nothing to bat and eye at.

Well here's mine, I have 'acquired' it from my fathers cousin who is now over 80 and can no longer use it. He used to do firewood commercially and got it custom built in the 1980's. Awesome unit, 16 Hp Kohler Magnum engine (quite thirsty but ultra reliable) and the conveyor/elevator is also hydraulic-powered (it shares the splitter oil but has its own pump and hydraulic circuit). Certainly speeds things up!

We stack on belting, but it still isn’t perfect.

Older Timberwolf at least 24’ feet long, little Honda gas engine with v belt system to drive the bottom drum. Barely runs above idle. Piled wood last year, sold it all with no complaints. Also bulk bag wood and it does fine. Need to add a bark sorter- maybe some day. Bought it used after 2 year search. In NC where it gets hellahot. Piled on edge of open area. Massey 1736 in the pic.

Father bought us a HUD-Son 12C I made a few modifications. One I made it 2 feet longer to reach higher and center of the 2 dump trailers. Then made a rubber guard to stop small splits from falling back and jamming. Much better after that. Splits still get suspended at times in the trough and need a split thrown at them so the chain grabs the splits. (I'm not the welder lol)

Here's my 1950s Case 28 ft. multi-use conveyor. I beat it up with wood so bad it went beyond repair so I towed it around the corner to the scrap yard.

I now have a 28 ft. Little Giant conveyor. I no longer have an electrical panel in my yard so200 ft of extension cord burns out my motors so I switched to gas but have to add a second pulley to gear it down
