Ive been climbing for two years, and Ive used the same set of used spurs the entire time. My old ones were Buckinghams with just basic lined pads. Well I finally decided to upgrade. I tried several different brands and types, including Geckos which everyone seems to love. I never could settle into the Geckos. I also decided to stay with steel since most aluminum climbers have a weight limit in the 280 lb range and I weigh 255 in my boxers so thats a little close for comfort. I decided to go with a set of Buckingham Steel leg irons with the Big buck pads. I keep my velcro wrap lowers from my old gaffs. I tried them in a yellow locust Ive been disassembling on one of my fance rows today and the comfort is a night and day difference. I cluld easily see standing in these for 6 houra woth no issues.

Big buck velcro pads are the first I ever got for my steel leg irons. It was the obvious choice in my opinion, but the velcro part can be a bit troublesome.

i tried the velcro big bucks that a friend had and found that i prefer the buckle straps. Everybody is built so different and has so many different likes that gaffs are probably some of the most personal gear used.

I might prefer the buckle straps, the velcro didn't turn out how I expected. I rarely use them, so I can't remember the problem, but it's like they wouldn't stay stuck, or they didn't have enough hook or loop along the whole strap, so they would unstick and start sticking to each other. It seemed to me like it needs to be broken in to stay put better.
