Went to Idaho to visit @KirkReynolds and @Funky sawman. I grew up in WA but it’s been a long time. Trees sure are different down here…tall, skinny, and straight up there…mostly. Also soft as butter…I found myself further thru the tree than I intended sooner than I expected.

First couple pics are helping out @Funky sawman

This next one we had to fell to the right to get it out of the limbs of the tree to the left of it…but there was an older rv trailer to the right so we put an anchor rope on it for insurance. You can see it pull the tree to the left as it falls.

@huskyboy recently posted a video “why I don’t hang around stumps…this one falls in that category. Small and rotten, not much way to direct it. Leaning towards the curved pine. I did a tiny face cut and then cut and run on the back. It folded up on the pine and came clear back to the stump.

Found this hemlock with half of it split off. Big tree, 36” DBH and maybe 150’? Was wanting to drop it but it’s on the neighbor’s property…maybe later.

This one was easy, slight lean in the direction of a handy window…big difference up there vs. here is Limb locking and finding a direction to drop trees without them getting stuck in others. We cut quite a few dead falls that were stuck. I bore cut it and the hit the trigger for fun. Took most of the 28” bar on the 661.

The small live alder on the left was in the way of dropping the bigger dead one.

A little coincidental trick on the little guy that we hinged out of the limb lock and back with the rope…the rope was only slightly snug at the beginning of the fall. As the tree moved, the rope came into contact with another tree to the left, increasing the tension and jerking it to the left.
