Assuming you can make a chain with any top plate angle you choose, and durability is a non issue, what do you like?
Should note that I cut way more oak than pine or other soft species.

Good thread here Duane.
I was just going through this yesterday as I filed many of my chains.
My chains seem to make big chips. Good for cutting, but not good if you are looking for speed. A couple of my round filed chains had a 30* top plate angle. I primarily cut all hard wood, and virtually no soft wood. So I decided to try a 25* top plate angle to see if I could get some speed up. I am doing trial by error. LOL
Not really sure if I am going in the right or wrong direction, but I am trying something. :)
I guess I will eventually find out.

For hard woods Mike? The Oregon EXL that I just looked at looks like a 20* top plate angle on a new out of the box chain. Doesn't even match the witness mark. Witness mark looks like 30 to 35*

Oregon EXL that Steve had was nice on the 6100s. I bet it would give Stihl chain a run in speed for round.

30 degrees is where I would go.
The exl is as fast as stihl out of box and smoother I think. But hand filed I still like the old lgx. Easy to file.

Yep. I like fast chains. If I want durability I’ll use semi chisel

My semi cuts fine for semi, but you guys aren’t getting the point, don’t matter what you do to it, it’s still like comparing a blown 8 second big block to a small block grocery getter
