Hi all,

My uncle and his wife lost their house to a fire the other night. They were able to escape with the cloths on their back and with their pets. Unfortunately they have no insurance and are on a fixed income. My uncle is taking this loss very hard and is still shaken. Only about 1/4 of the house structure was lost from fire but the rest of the house sustained significant smoke and water damage due to its small size. A GoFundMe page was created with a modest goal of $1k. If anyone can spare a dollar or two it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Even thoughts/wishes or prayers are appreciated. I know he feels like he's in a dark place, he needs emotional support the most right now. Thank you.

A little. The good news is the GoFundMe is over its goal so thanks to all who contrubuted and any who may in the future.

I spoke with my cousin who is a fireman and he got a chance to look over the house. He believes the house wont need a full gut job. Some of the smoke damage can be cleaned (farthest from the fire). Only 1/3, maybe 1/2 of the floor joists are lost and will need to be replaced. The exterior walls seems to be ok structurally and the fire did not get into the attic or damage the roof. The living room and kitchen were the most damaged.

The fire started in the electrical panel down in the basement. Once the lights were flickering enough for him to investigate the smoke was so thick downstairs he couldn't reach the panel. We were able to salvage some items in the basement like a snowblower, mower but its limited. Our first goal is to get a dumpster and start cleaning out the house. The family is going to pull together and repair the house for him. His son owns a countertop business and has the tools well need. His two grand sons are in their 20's and able to help. My brother and I, and two other nephews are going to organize and help in the labor.

Thank you for asking. I owe him another call to see how he is coping.
