Has anyone used a factory refinish service? Smith and Wesson, Colt, and Ruger for sure offer this but not sure about others. My Dad picked up a Model 36 on the cheap, functionally it is flawless but the finish is 70 percent or better gone. I called Smith and Wesson out of curiousity and they said it normally runs around $220.00 for a strip, polish, re-blue, assembly and test fire. Having had several guns done by competent gunsmiths in the past this seems curiously cheap, my smith said he won't touch it for less than $400.00 Does anyone have any personnel experience or insight?

I personally haven’t had any done, but a friend of mine had a model 19 redone by Smith & Wesson about 10 years ago. It turned out nice…don’t know what he paid or if they are using the same process anymore.
