It's a screw for the starter recoil I never had the opportunity to take the side casing off as it was with me for a week and it was sold so quickly

It is a plastic plug with a hole in it...it rotates and the hole aligns with a hole in the recoil housing and allows the operator to grease, or oil, the recoil spring.

I like it! I also enjoy the Oleo Mac saws...most of mine wear an Olympyk badge.

Do you normally run your 999 without the filter cover? If so, do you put some sort of prefilter on it?

That filter assembly is from a cut-off saw , It never had a cover, It's better than the stock flock filter it had.
