So I got caught with some water in fuel issue on my 3 yr old SRM 225. How I don't know, since I get NE gas, and add Stabil. Installed new echo tuneup kit, new Zama RB-K93 and new echo fuel line kit. Having issues with priming, sometimes it primes with many pumps, will run for a minute then dies from no fuel.

Started checking out to make sure I had the new fuel kit installed right, pickup line on the small inlet, purge line on the larger inlet. All looked right, then removed the 2 fuel lines and checked the priming action. It was there I noticed when priming, I'd get air coming OUT of the small fuel inlet. I do have a Zama rebuild kit for this carb, but had figured for 45$ why bother.

Any insight on what is going on with the priming system?

The black line ("pickup") should be connected to the larger inlet (on the right side). The transparent line ("purge") to the small inlet (on the left side).

My bad, then, I had marked the old carb with in and out. Kinda suspected it though. Seems like I'm making more mistakes last few years as I approach 70. Thanks for the help!

I am not 70 yet, but anytime I have multiple lines or wires or just digging into a new saw/trimmer, I always take pictures. I think I can remember, but then I set the project to the side for a few days or something else occupies my time and when I go to put it back together...its not pretty. Pictures save the day a lot for me!! About 70% of the pictures on my phone are of chainsaws in different degrees of repair - where things were and where I need to put them back.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I need to do more of the photo thing when taking it apart. It's nothing for me to bring a tablet out following a youtube guide. But I'll probably forget it next time something needs fixed.

I guess I celebrated early. Fired it up, was doing some weeding, after 10 minutes (just got it up to operating temps) it started to bog down, wouldn't take any throttle. Then it died, hit primer a couple times, it would start on full choke but dies almost immediately. Going to let it cool off, thinking maybe coil is getting hot and failing. I have checked out a coil before, but will have to look it up again.

edit- repair videos suggest cleaning the magnets on flywheel and coil ends, then clean the plug ends first, so I'll do that.

The coil is likely not the issue. That sounds like fuel, not spark. Check to make sure the intake insulator block isn't loose on the cylinder--I've already seen that. Make sure that the gasket between the carburetor and insulator are good too. Have you tried adjusting the carburetor?

Yes, new gasket at the insulator/carb. I have not tried adjusting the carb. Thanks for the info, though. I'll look at the insulator tomorrow.
