Hello,

I have acquired an old Stihl 017. This is apparently an "early" 017. I bought a new ignition coil for the saw. Part# 1130 400 1302 which was prescribed for the Stihl 017. This part did not fit the saw. The bolt holes did not line up. Not even close.

Apparently the "early" Stihl 017's used part# 1130 400 1300.

This part; 1130 400 1300 is hard to find on the internet. The ones I have found are costly and most have additional shipping cost from Europe. The price of the 1130 400 1300 far exceeds the cost of the old saw which runs great when it has sufficient spark.

I have a few questions:

Can anyone confirm that Part# 1130 400 1300 is in fact the correct ignition module for the early Stihl 017's?
Can anyone advise where I can find Ignition Coil Part# 1130 400 1300?
Can anyone recommend an alternative part that will fit and work with the early Stihl 017's?
Can anyone advise a modification to fit another ignition coil to the early Stihl 017?

It would be a shame to scrap this old saw because of the price for an ignition coil ($60 -$100). I am hoping that someone can recommend a solution.

Thank you,

Brian

Yes, the 1130 400 1300 is the ignition module for the previous version of the 017. There is no orher alternative for it.

Mr. Ripley,

I'm sorry I did not have a chance to answer your reply in a timely manner.

Thanks for your advise! Now I know for sure what part I need.

I am going to pass on your used ignition module. Thank you for the offer.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Best regard,

Brian

Thank you for getting back to me. I did find a brand new one for a relatively reasonable price in Germany. The seller is advertising the part as a 1130 400 1300, 1130 400 1301.

I asked if the 1300 and 1301 were both good for the early 017's. If it was basically the same part but he replied in German......I only speak English.

Do you know if the 1300 and 1301 are interchangable?

Thanks,

Brian

They ask you to send them a picture of your old original part. It would help them to find a matching part for your saw. Sometimes different parts match the same model.

I`m not able to find specific information for the 1130 400 1301 ignition module. But this 1130 400 1301 was replaced in 1999 with 1130 400 1300. So I think both of them will fit your saw.

They want photos with dimensions.
Then they will search for a coil with the perfect dimensions, so it could be for another chainsaw brand.

Thank you very much!
You went above and beyond!

The part is cheaper than the others but alot more expensive than the popular coils. I think I'll make the seller an offer and take a chance that this is the correct part. It sounds like it is.

Thanks again. You've been a tremendous help!

Have a Merry Christmas!

I'm surprised they didn't answer you in English, almost everyone in Germany speaks a least a little English.

I found it on eBay. The listing was in english. He was apparently able to read my question (maybe with a translation app) the replied in German.

I negotiated a better price and bought the part yesterday afternoon.

Thanks for all your help.

Have a Merry Christmas!

This is an aftermarket coil which I am not a fan of, but it is the right part number and cheap. https://www.amazon.com/ICOOYO-Ignition-Coil-Stihl-017/dp/B0CBK8R2R7
