Dull Stihl saw

Anybody know how to brighten up the plastic on an 021 Stihl chainsaw? The orange and the white both are very dull and I tried a little rubbing compound on it and it didn't work. I don't want to put a bunch of money in the project since it's not my saw, just hate to take it back to the owner looking like it does...

Westley’s white wall tire cleaner will get dried pine sap off and brighten up the white plastic.

The orange, I don’t know.

Do that ^ and rub it down with atf for rich luster and it catches dust.

I usually take Sunday off but Monday I'll see what kind of chemicals I have in the shop. On the 'net they say that boiled linseed oil and paint thinner mixed will take the oxidation off but I never tried it..

Make sure you take any rags with the linseed oil outside when you’re done, with that there is the chance of spontaneous combustion.

That's what I used on this Stihl 028 classic that has to be pushing 40 years old. I rubbed it on with very fine steel wool in a circular motion like a random orbit sander.
This saw runs very well today.

I tried a few different things. The harbor freight headlight kit did a nice job getting a decent finish. IIRC it was about $15

You know, I did buy a Maguire's headlight kit quite some time ago and never used it. I may give that a shot..
