Very strait forward... If I have a 9000 ign can I advance or retard the flywheel to make a 9010 coil work?

I have a friend with a 9000 and he bought a new 9010 coil b/c his old 9000 coil died. He can't get the 9000 fw and 9010 coil combo to work as a strait bolt on. He's not the type to fiddle with advancing and retarding fw. So I told him I'd trade him my good 9000 coil for his 9010 coil and figure out how to make them work together later... So I wanted a little reassurance that this can be done since 9010 FW's are $100+ right now.

It would defiantly be worth the upgrade If you got the flywheel as well
Oddly enough but I think the 9010 has a higher revving ign coil so win win
When most saws get screwed down in newer models, I sold a couple of upgrades over the last couple of years but never fitted them
I have upgraded 7900 and 7901 to 7910
The last flywheel I bought was approx £80 queen Lizzie pounds

Yea 9000 is 12-12.5k rpm and I think the 9010 is 13-13.2k??? I know the 9010 is higher by 750-1000rpm at least. Buddy just wants a bolt on and go coil. Upgrade for one of my saws and a bolt on for him makes it win/win.

Just want to make sure it's just a fw timing adjustment I need before trading a coil 3-4 states away...

Regarding the PS-79xx I am pretty sure that the new coil does not work with the old flywheel, nor the old coil with the new flywheel.
I remember having read that a swap/replacement of both parts is required.

I don't think it'll be any different with the PS-9000/9010.

I admit I could be wrong though!

On the PS-7900 the old discontinued coil is the higher limited one at 13,5k, the new current coil cuts out at 12,8k.

I wouldn't hand ower my functional PS-9000 coil considering that the PS-9010 might not work without the matching flywheel!

I'll bring this thread back up. I'm looking at a 9010, with a 9000 coil and flywheel. The coil is bad and getting a 9010 coil is much easier than finding one for a 9000. The gentleman who owns the saw has a new 9010 coil that doesn't work with the 9000 flywheel. Maybe we're talking about the same saw?
Is all I need a 9010 flywheel to get this saw running again? Is there any benefit from having that 9000 ignition on the 9010? From what I've read here it seems to be better going with the 9010 ignition anyways.

Not really an advantage the parts will be harder too find , than the parts for a 9010 and as @blackdog says you will end up with a low revving saw

Sorry for the belated response. The 9000 and 9010 ignitions are both "limited coils". The 9010 ignition is limited higher about 1500 rpm's so people usually like to use the 9010 over the 9000. However, if you are tuning your saw in the wood with a decent size bar you should be tuning the saw to about 9700-10,200rpm. Even at 10,200 you are under both the limiters and shouldn't have a problem tuning. The problem most guys have is that they tune are carb in their shop to max RPM. At WOT out of the wood you end up running over the 10,200 rpm and bumping the limiter which was 11,800 on a 9000 and I think 12,800-13,300 rpm on a 9010.

Also it has been theorized that you can possibly re-clock the flywheel on a 9000 in order for it to match the 9010 coil. I have not tried myself but it could be possible.

Keep in mind plenty of guys are modifying the 272xp husky coil to work on the 7900... possibly the same could be done with the 9010/9000?????

Where is Miller??? He might have some insight...
