Hey studs,

I have a chance to buy a Dolmar 510 for $125, yet I wince over my previous horrific experience with it's older relative, a now defunct Sachs Dolmar 116si.
That saw extracted more than its pound of flesh and many hundred dollar bills!
What is the thoughts on the 510?
Looks like the power band falls between my 026 and 034AV.

Thanks,
Reg

I found a new one on the clearance table at my local dealer. Bought it and have loved it since then.
Gotta love the clearance table, who's your local dealer? Cause you're not too far from me, I don't have a Dolmar/Makita dealer near me, and like to stop at em all when passing through....

Nixa Hardware. they're really a Stihl dealer. Had about 4-5 Dolmars for about 5 years. This one sat on the shelf the whole time.
Harold's small engine over by Clever is an actual Dolmar dealer. I'd like to have a 6100 too, someday.

I've cut about two cords of oak with my new 510. Runs great, if you get it started. After setting overnight or longer, it takes 30- 40 pulls to get it to start. Regardless of choke / no choke. I had my dealer check it out and found nothing. After starting, it will fire right up the rest of the day. First try of the day though and its a nightmare. Following all spec's for fuel etc. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm to the point of returning for refund or moving on to another brand. Love the cutting and funtionality of the saw but this starting problem is ridiculous. I've ran chain saws most of my adult years and I'm pushing 60 so I dont think its from lack of experience.

Sounds like the L circuit needs adjusting and/or the metering needle needs replaced.
Does it smoke profusely when first fired up?

I wouldn't mind doing a muffler mod on mine, but the factory epoxyed the high and low adjustments. So I guess no mods for this one. Which is ok, I guess, because it runs really nice.

Get a different carb or dig the epoxy out

Check out this thread in the chainsaw forum here; similar model and likely using the same carb.

if its above 40* or so i find they start perfect if you us this sequence instead of the official one

flip choke on
flip choke off
pull till it starts(usually 1-3 pulls)

they flood easy when cold and flipping the choke on then off again sets the fast idle.

I learned to never pull the rope more than 3 times with the choke of my 5105 on. If it's cold it might not start with the next 3 pulls, so I'll give it one more pull with the choke on, then take the choke off.

i pull 3 times with choke off but fast idle set, if it doesnt start then and only then do choke em but even if mine has sat for a few weeks it is usually running on 1st or second pull.
