Gday lads.
I have the opportunity to get a Dolmar 5000 but i dont really know much about them. Are they any good?
I see that alot of people rate the Dolmar/Makita 5100, are they a better saw than the 5000?
I intend to port this saw and see what gains i can get
Cheers

From what I understand it’s a similar saw to the 5100S, but without the 14.500 rpm coil, and with red top covers instead of black. The handlebar I believe is plastic, instead of metal like on the 5100S? I could be wrong on that, though.

@166 will know more specifics. He just got a 5000 himself, and is a Dolmar dealer.
@old_sir_henry may also have more info, as I don’t think the 5000 was ever sold in the US.

I’d be very happy having a 5000 in my humble collection of saws. Dolmar is quality.

The PS-5000 came out in 2004 or so but was never imported to North America.

It's very similar to the PS-5100S that was sold here except for the (red) 13,500 coil, warm red hood, slightly different muffler / carb depending on destination (Spark Arrestor / carb adjustment screws), and the plastic handle bar vs the aluminum on the 5100s.

These saws are generally hard to get big gains with porting them.
