Anyone have good luck using a nova chip to fix a dolmar 123 or 133 ignition? I tried one but seems like timing is way off now? What about putting 070 Stihl aftermarket ignition on will it work? Those can be sourced almost as cheap as the nova chip.

I had to vintage saws find there way to me a few years back, A Homelite XP1000
and a Mcculloch 795, Both had chips, Not sure of brand but the Mac i was able
to get running but it was a chore to pull, The timing was so advance it would rip
the pull handle through your fingers. The Homelite was the same but i could
never get it running. I changed both back to points and they both ran well and
started as they should.

Like he says^^^^,points are the way to go on vintage saws , if that’s how they were originally built. I don’t know anything about your saw , but the 133 Super has electronic ignition. There is a way to fix the Bosch (as on Stihl 056 Super) might work on yours if it so equipped.

I bought a Bosch magneto setup from a Stihl 041 Farm Boss that I was going to try on my 056. I believe all the parts will fit but my 056 runs so good after the repair was done to the electronic ignition I’ve resolved not to mess with it unless it stops working. I do love magnetos because I understand them and can make them go!
Here is a link to Foggysail’s repair on that ignition system.
Many here in the forum may have read my recent posts regarding the Bosch electronic ignition. My 056 pooped the bed or better still make that my lawn while I was in the middle of clearing trees. And yes, problem was no spark. I have also read numerous posts stating that the cause is "coil...

What about the aftermarket setups for the 070 and 090? Looks very similar to the other style dolmar used on like the 119 and 120. I am very tempted to try one can get a whole unit for under $20

I advanced the timing and got the saw to sort of run with the chip but it still wasn't great. Was curious if coil could have been weak so swapped it with another making no difference. Decided to try to slot holes in plate and advance timing more. Starts in 2 pulls now and revs nicely. If I have issues with one may try other repair later.

070/090 plate is bigger and components won't work. Anyone know if sem ignition units on cutoff saws were low limited?
