So was just wondering what height you cut lawns at? Is ther a standerd hight?
I set mine 2.5 inchs off the floor and have cut all my lawns that way. Nobody ever has complained till resently. I got a new lawn this year i picked up and my girl has been cutting it doing a good job. Guy says the grass should be cut lower so i was kinda pissed about it but said f it and went back and and recut lower. I kinda figure he is just being picky. Lawn looked good and all i just think he maybe trying to get it lower to cut it less often( once a week).

I cut mine at 3.5"-4" on a fescue lawn. Cut it much shorter and when it gets hot and dry it will die. Also the shorter you cut it the greater chance for weeds to grow.

Also height depends on type of grass and climate.

So would you drop push mower deck everytime cutting lawn if someone wanted that? I feel 2.5 is plenty short.
I do my own lawn at 3 inch

If you are doing it for hire it's their lawn. They want to stress it it's their decision. I don't argue with money.

I would explain all the above mentioned comments. They're all very true. Short grass dies easily in the heat and those "extra roots'' help store moisture during a drought. The taller and thicker grass helps keep the soil moist too.

I like mine right around 4'' ...... feels soft and cushy. Nice when your hangin in the yard, standing or sittin.

Had to measure, 1 1/2".
Been scalping it for three years and still can't kill it.
That will change once I find a 3 pt mower.

It has never been seeded, watered, or chemically fed.
I think those ones have shallower roots.

If I could have one souvenir from Three Rivers Stadium it be the astro turf.

But mine is a yard not a lawn.

All the above comments are spot on for lawn health. Different grasses in different climates can vary a little of course.
Sometimes there is a reason to cut short. But that's a people reason not a grass reason.
Some people associate "money's worth" with a low cut height.

4" is good for that thick dark turf, but plain ol mixed grass and weeds around here look and feel best under 3" in my opinion. I like to cut 2.5", but it can stress it.

I like the idea of a no mow lawn: short fescue or a short fine sedge. I have a lot spreading around here. I'm letting it go to seed before mowing. They just need an occasional high cut for the seed pods, but otherwise don't grow during the warm season, just stays green and the same height.

Agreed! Blue grass does great here in the spring but will fry in the summer.
It did very well at my dads house in the flatlands. I'm in the hills now and wonder how it would fare hear. I have some areas that need reseeding. Partially shaded area. It will get blue grass.

I cut mine at 2.5 at the beginning and end of mowing season and from 3" to 3.5 in the summer months depending on how hot and dry it is.

When I mowed for hire here, 3” is what we cut them. 3.5”-4” on my “every two weekers”. Now I have a front deck mower that takes 15 minutes to change the height so it’s on 3” and stays there, lol! If they wanted it scalped and there is no danger of damage to my equipment, scalp it!
