I like the X-cut chain by Husqvarna. Stays sharp longer and cuts well.

I keep hearing that. I have a loop of husky chain with the flopped over dog ear depth gauges but I don’t know if it’s Xcut. I’ll have to try it.

All ready, will see what my wimpy little 395 does:D

I only have semi for the 30” and 42”, other saws will be stuck with full chisel.

posted this in the thread for this saw before. You can hear the chatter when I dog and nose down. Doesn’t do it on the rear end of the bar. Maybe chain could have been tighter too.

You need a PS-7910/EA7900! ;)

Gah! I just passed one on, haha. It seems to me my 6100 is heavy for class and looking at specs the 80ccs are light for class, would you agree?

Burying that bar with an aggressive chain might be causing chatter at the sprocket nose. Try cutting a smaller piece.
Hard stuff there!

Darn tootin'. Duh on me!

It's cold and rainy again, and I promised a pack of younguns who want to be soldiers like their daddy a ride in the deuce, and their mama says today. Actually, same family I cut those bug killed eucs down for last summer.

I’d say the 6100 is maybe a little heavier than other 60cc saws, but not really that much. It does hold a lot of fluids, though. Different chassis than the 64-73-79cc saws.
The 6400/6421 is heavy for its displacement, but the 7900/7910 is not. Same saw, just different cylinder and piston.

If You have to deal with stuff like that eucalyptus there really is no replacement for displacement and comparing weights within a half lbs or so is just splitting hairs.

My MMWS6100 PHO is 7.19kg fully fueled with dual spike clutch cover mod, or 7.07kg with factory stock clutch cover and single small EU style spike, or 7.09kg with factory stock clutch cover and single big US style spike.

For comparison, my PS-7900 PHO fully fueled with large US style 2 dual spikes is 6.75kg.

Go figure! ;)

I'll take my PS-7900/7310/7300/6400 for any job at hand any time.

P.S.:
PS-9010 PHO fully fueled with full wrap and dual spikes is 9.5kg and You get a tugboat of a saw. :D

It would appear that I should have kept and built the 7910. But I will keep my 395 and build the 2166.
The 6100 with 20” steel bar is 1lb lighter than the 2166 with 28” LW bar.

If you like these type of saws get your self an 85cc one for that rock hard chit. Keep your 395 for stumps and milling.
Everyone is carrying a 59-73cc to fill the gap.

Pretty easy to find an in or out clutch.

It was decided that it was too cold for deucin’ around so I went and got saws. They didn’t like the cold much either. Things didn’t go as planned. I picked a big log that turned out to be soft in the middle and had nails, etc. in it so not a good example of euc and 3 whacked chains in short order. Also wind and dusty dry rottenish wood, kept inhaling and getting red mist in my eyes which was distracting. Still had fun other than the 2166 idling stupid. I wanna kill the limiters so I can start fresh and count turns out, etc.. 073EF801-43FE-447B-B3A9-1E3157D80223.jpeg F515F943-B8BA-4E71-9F54-91EA58319E19.jpeg DDB73F6A-3F8A-4F6B-B7FD-D9E0DD1CD08A.jpeg E185764A-6113-45F8-81CB-3DB2048436DD.jpeg 8DA1BA87-9AC6-474C-B963-BE2AD43DC1C1.jpeg

Started out ok in a smaller log. The chains were new but not ideal for hard wood. Full chisel Oregon. Actually, the 2166 might have Carlton on it which has a little less hook, and that saw runs slower, didn’t seem to chatter. The Dolmar chattered only a bit, more so with the bar buried. The 395 chattered a little a well, probably because I forgot to switch back to the 7 pin from 8. Cut fast on the soft part in the middle and had a little trouble with the outer harder part. Then hit something on the right at the bottom and made a hard left cut - stuck!

When the 2166 hit that nail, it caught pretty hard.

395 started out kinda rough, then muffin wood in the middle, then went to heck after it hit something.

Gotta love that big hard euc, the last pic is of a piece with a 32” bar I had to come both ways on it had to be 50” or more wide. The stuff had been sitting for a few years, there were 5-6 pieces like that. Had th run a file a few times that day it was ridiculous.

I had intended to run the 6100 and 2166 24” head to head today after work...

The 2166 redeemed itself. Idle still a
little erratic, but it ran through solid euc 24” buried. Happy with myself cuz I saved the chain that was all tore up from the nail.

OTOH, the Dolmar didn’t do so well. Brand new inexpensive chain didn’t cut well at all and then I think hit something right off, hard right! Also stalling when coming out of the cut. More tuning...

I wanted to swap 24” chains but ran out of daylight.

I tried the 395 again in bigger euc with the 30” Oregon full comp semi chisel buried. Cut pretty slow and was dull in one cut. So next I think I will try full chisel full skip, maybe on the 42” so I don’t have to mess with trying to cut from the other side.

Wish I had a 36” LW...

Not so good chain on the left. Er, bottom. Sorry.

Total/Carlton? C1

sharpened it and ran it through a small euc test log at the house tonight, I think it’s better now.
Can you see the C? Si!

Side view of the cutters?!
You may have too much hook if the chain dulls too fast.

That wood looks like fun, it will test Your sharpening skills.

I wonder how a Stihl Rapid Duro3 carbide tipped chain would perform in that kind of wood.
It is good cutting but not aggressive new factory ground, and it is fairly impervious to embedded sand - doesn't like stones or the likes though.

Once the outside of that euc dries out like that it is a ROCK. I’ve used both full and semi in it, hard to say both need to be filed after every tank at least. Cuts like butter when there is moisture in it. I’ve run stihl, forest, husky chain through it, when it’s hard it’s all the same. That’s why I run archer, files nice and don’t get so pissed off, that a 25$ chain can last as long as a 50$ chain in that wood. Me personally, I am starting to run semi with the wood I get, all delivered in end dump loads and most of it is dirty. Cut might be a few seconds slower, but not having to file as much makes up for that. Chain is just a little tougher in my opinion.
Another thing with that red gum it seems to clog up the chain quick. Gotta try to keep the heat down, I know some guys will wet it down before they mess with that really dry stuff both cutting and splitting. Never tried it myself but might try it.

@Wilhelm It was new stock Oregon Semi. I'm getting lots of sharpening practice. Pressure washing helps get the dirt out of the cracks. Perhaps I will wash/soak more. But it is oily and it appears all the rain we had didn't penetrate, so no much hope for soaking. I was thinking about durocut or carbide. Today I'm going to try full chisel full skip. At least less cutters to risk/sharpen.

@Socalmisfit yeah, I noticed the outside was hard to get started into. I was also wondering about running water into the cut while cutting like through tool coolant on CNC machines...maybe water soluble oil mix...
