Case Halves

[066 redeye]

Using different case halves (066 small tank).YES/NO/PROBLEMS.
Main AV mount broken on original.

You mean mixing and matching case halves? It can be done with Stihls but they're a lot more difficult than
some other brands because the machining tolerances can be off by quite a bit among their different factories.

There seems to be enough "meat" to fab a bracket and screw it to the case.
Will look into it in the future.
Bearings are gone but very good PC with heaps of compression.

If you still have the piece I know there are a few people on here, (can't remember there names at the moment) that can tig weld that back on for you. That may save you the hassle of trying to match halves.

Too bad, I weld a lot of Stihl cases.

In my experience Stihl cases don't match up well but you can get lucky sometimes. If it's a tiny step (0.001-0.002") you can get away with hand scraping the transition area with a sharp 90 corner. Like the top of a file that's been ground slightly to make the corner sharp. If you don't scrape it the gasket won't seal at the step. Carefully scraping it back to almost the bolt holes will make it seal and it's still within tolerance for out of plane to the bore.

More concerned about bearing pocket alignment than case/ cylinder height.
