Hey all thanks for the input. And money is an issue, and I already have a roll of full skip 3/8 .063 gauge. So it will make it more affordable 4 us.

Weird the bar adapter looks just like what Bailey's sells. Guy had that bar on a 372 believe it or not. Plate wouldn't fit the 2101. So I'm wondering what that adapter was for, the holes were closer together. I just, need to make sure, we get the right one.

Ive run a 50" with both 3/8 and 404. Unless in dirty wood, the 3/8 is easier on the saw and faster & cheaper. On newer piston ported saws I'd tend to use 3/8, for Reed valve saws 404.

I don't have a 50" but I have a 38" in 3/8. No worries. I cut hardwood exclusively. Also have a 32" in .404. Better have a Horse for it in hardwood.

I like the 32" 404 tsumara I have but I'd rather it was 3/8 050

On 066 and 395 size saws 3/8 is a better option and not because they can't run 404
It's hard on things, clutch and especially the pto side bearing and it makes the saw work more to accomplish the same amount of production, unless your cutting extremely dirty wood with a 880 or 3120 then I see no reason to use it.

Freind of mine that's a faller loves 404 and a 24" bar, runs full comp square filed and files very rarely and I think it's the only 404 setup I like.
I have a gb 20" 404 that is a laser cutting bigger firewood but is very *s-wordty for limbs, the big cutter will throw small stuff.
