Hey everyone. Currently working on an 064 that came to me as a basket case with low compression among other things. Found a crack in the case where the cylinder mounts up. Gave the part a good hard wiggle by hand and it broke right off. Never seen anything quite like this. Is this fixable via JB weld or do I need to find a shop to rig weld this thing?

That’s what it looks like to me too. Someone was in this saw before me. I found all kinds of issues. The clutch side bearing is trashed so I was going to split the cases anyways. Could I possibly use a donor case half or should I stick to a whole new case?

Not certain about mismatched stihl cases. I’ve seen .020” difference in deck height

I’ve fixed an 066 with JB weld where the conrod had punched through that spot. Has held up fine and was easy to do.

Kevin is spit on with that. Of all the basket cases I've tried to cobble together, only like 5 percent of mismatched cases actually line up and are square with one another

Solid info. Thanks. I was starting to wonder what the likelihood of cases matching was. I have a 266 with a 272 top end on it that I won in a raffle and once I got into it, I realized the cases were mismatched and man what a headache that was just trying to get the cylinder to sit flush
