Well, I bought a few grips that were stippled for me and the wifes Smith & Wesson M&P Pistols last year. Then picked up a Smith M&P Shield a few weeks ago. Well, grips sucked, and did some inteweb browsing on stippling. So, I bought a wood burning kit. It is basically a soldering iron with different tips on it, wally world had a chi-com unit for $12. Burned some Pmags first to get the feel of it. Here is my Shield I did. Then did my Echo CS-370 grip tonight. They call the Shield "Bark" and the Echo is just dots......

It is really amazing on how much it adds grip. Some people sand down, and my wife does like it sanded, but she has women hands. I like it without.

I am doing my MS440 now, with help from some of me and my bros homebrew beers.....will try to post updates.

The "Bark" is very easy to do, I used a angled flathead bit to do the lines.

Burner tips. I only used the small one in the tool on the saw handles.

El-Cheapo Chi-Com "Wood Burning Tool". Craft department at the Wally World, I had a bug and no one else openon Sunday when I bought it.

It don't look like much, but it is really amazing what it does for grip. No lie, grab your soldering iron and practice burning on anything plastic. I just did my dewalt impact I use daily also. I was concerned when I tried burning a green Springfield XD grip, it discolored a bit so I stopped. But the yellow DeWalt, turned a little orange color when hot then cooled normal yellow. I have not done any other colors.

Like I said, try it and you will be stippling everything.......

Hope you like it Chris.

It really is amazing on what it adds for grip, looks chincy but....... I did the trigger/throttle also. I usually run without gloves........So, I am pumped to rip some logs.

I really don't care if I ruined a saw so, you can be happy to buy a cheap azz saw on my estate sale.......

I'm going to do my 441 rcm and then my 360. off to the hardware store tomorrow for wood burner kit. I hate wearing gloves while running my saws.

Nice detail. Thanks for posting this.

Still looks like it takes a little patience and planning to get the grips to turn out that nice.

What's the wattage of your soldering/burning iron?

I wouldn't have done that to the husqvarna, with the stihls the black parts are replaceable. The 55 tank is considerably more expensive to replace. If I were to do this and especially to get some practice in on some custom designs I would buy some after market rear handle covers.
I actually kind of like the idea and can think of some cool designs, but I would stick to parts that I can swap out easily.

For example the 55 would have looked awesome if you had just stippled the sides that pop out, you could have removed them and made some cool designs and reinstalled, and still improved grip.

Either way keep practicing maybe you could sell custom handles one day.

Thanks for the replies. There is a ton of different designs out there. Burner is 25 watts. I don't have much in the 55, so to me it is not a big deal, and don't think it will fetch less if I put it up on CL.
