Just a basic vid of how I personally hand file with no guides.
Use whatever works best for you nothing wrong with using guides or chain grinders.
There is many ways to sharpen a chain that work.

I virtually sharpen the same way as you , I got no idea how to turn that computer on now it's asking for a password I have not used in three or four years and have no hope in hell of remember pity I had heaps of videos and pictures i'm gonna lose .

Can you move the hard drive to the secondary position in another computer and read/transfer the material?

If Your precious data is on a hard drive it can easily be accessed by:
- plugging Your computers hard drive into another computer
- connecting Your hard drive to another computer via an IDE/SATA-to-USB hub

I do this all the time, easy peasy.
Save Your data, purge/format Your hard drive and install a fresh operating system.

I just assembled this old bucket featuring a hot swap bay for 3,5" & 2,5" SATA hard drives, makes data backup and HDD scans lightning fast.

For PATA hard drives I use the USB hub.
