So I usually run husky all season x guard. Question I have is I picked up some Poulan pro all season at menards today for $10 vs x guard at $17. The package says Husqvarna products so I’m wondering if they’re the same? I took a sample of each and they feel real similar to touch and tack. Only difference to me is visual where x guard is a gold oil color and Poulan is a reddish purple color.

Probably not the same, but who cares? I used to run the x-guard when it was $10/gal (now $23/gal) Now I just get whatever the local farm store has when it's on sale for $6.99/gal.

Is yours all season? If so that makes me think more that they could be. And my local menards is having 15% off sale was another reason I got it.

I’ll get some pics when I get home, but mine may be a similar color to that but I feel like it may be a little more cold.

Finally got some pics I can see where the husky looks red. In a pile it does but dip you finger and it looks more gold, just as the Poulan looks black in a pile but more purple when you dip your finger.

Kinda what I’m getting at probably not buying the x guard anymore from The dealer just gonna go with the cheaper stuff. And I’d about bet it’s the same. Kinda like Castrol who makes stihl two stroke oil.

They are probably not exactly the same, but it really doesn’t matter. I’ve used the cheapest stuff I can find for many years. No noticeable difference in the wear on the bars or chains. This has been discussed a few time an lots of other fellers have come to the same conclusion. Use whatever you like with confidence.

It likely says Husqvarna on the back of the Poulan bottle because Husqvarna has owned Poulan for a long time.

Ya but it would seem odd to me to make oil at a different place for cost effect. But then again maybe it’s made at the same place but different additives.

Bar oil, like other lubricants, are made by different regional suppliers and packaged under many different names. The Husky stuff isn’t any different. Husqvarna doesn’t actually manufacture their own bar oil. They just specify how they want it made. I’ve run the Poulan pro stuff enough. I usually buy it by the case when it’s cheap in the middle of the summer. I’ve noticed differences in color, thickness, etc. from batch to batch. the bar and chain don’t seem to care. You likely have a supplier near by. If you really wanted to save money you could buy from them by the 55 gallon barrel.

I'm the same with motor oil .I use full synthetic on the three vehicles and Toro mower and regular in the old tractors .The vehicles because of low usage and the mower with only 25-30 hours per year gets changed once a year .The tractors about every two years. I just wait until named brands go on sale and stock up .Doesn't make me much diff if it's Valvoline or Quaker State or Shell .I've heard of all this so called premium stuff like Royal Purple etc but I don't give that much of a thought or credit but again that's none of my business .
