I’m wondering what is the best type and length of bar to put on an Echo 490. Mine pulls a 20” with OK power, but I find it to be too much for a stock 50cc saw. If anyone who runs a 490 could tell me what bar they run on it, that would be great.

Cheers, Brett

I ran k095 .325 18" husky bar's on mine
They are a little loose no biggie.
It was the best for me
I'd take link out occasionally
Usually they worked fine out of the box.

I bought a conversion rim drive from @Homelite410 to run 3/8 lp. I shortened an A041 bar so I can run the same 91vxl chain on my 490 and 400. Cuts fantastic. Did you do a muffler mod and remove carb limiters and retune your 490? The 490 muffler mod is the easiest one there is.

Not really. I removed the deflector and cut out the baffle plate on the back of it then remove the tube baffle located inside the muffler, you just pull it out with your fingers. Stock I was ready to get rid of my 490, after mm and carb retune it was good. After conversion to 3/8 lp its definitely a keeper.

I don’t think drilling would work. If you take the exhaust deflector off and just pull out the baffle in the muffler you will see gains if you remove carb limiters and retune.

I second a 20" 041 mount 3/8lp Oregon bar. Or, use an 18-20" echo 590 bar with full size 3/8 chain. Don't use k095, I don't think it will fit without mods. The Echo large mount bar can be bought as a solid milled bar with replaceable tip. They tend to have a tighter bar groove and cut straighter longer. The 041 LP bar is only available laminated. The part number for the low pro bar is 200PXDK041.

Converting to 3/8 or 3/8lp has fewer teeth than .325, so it doesn't load the engine as much, and clears chips easier in big wood.

Just take off the exhaust deflector, and it is easy to figure out a mod. You might also drill a couple 1/2" holes on the side of the muffler opposite the stock outlet.

Nope, it’s actually quite the opposite, as I live in a nice suburban area of Dallas. I just have the nicest tools, so I’m the target for robberies

Someone is following you home.

Get some cameras.

He's in a stand your ground state.

I'd get a jobsite box and bolt it down and circle lock it.

Yup, if someone steals your *s-word in 2020 you’re the criminal not the thief.
