I was trying to figure out the isues with my boys atv. While back it just sudenly lost power to the display, fans, lights. I was wondering if a bad regulator would cause loss of power to these things? Its not charging the battery while running.

Now when poking around i noticed if i unplug the little harness with three wires going to starter sylinoid i get lights fans and display only while running. Soon as engine turnes off loose it all till restart.
So this would tell me that the stator is good.
Its a chinese baja wilderness 250.

Sounds like you have it pegged. If it's not charging while running there is an issue. See if you can see if there is power running to where on the stator wires

Have you check a.c. voltage on the stator? Does yours have three terminals? If so, check voltage across all three terminals only. A.c. voltage should climb real good when RPM is raised. If one terminal does not raise, bad stator. Also check across all three, should be no resistance, if I'm not mistaken.

All resistances should be the same between any 2 ac wires and high or infinity to ground.

Those three wires if check with each other should be open and open to ground

Plenty of utube vids on testing stator and reg.
Approx .6 ohms wire to wire on stator and open to earth.

If the windings are touching each other, they are shorted together, that's why the wires are coated to keep from shorting out to each other.

Ok so i put mutimeter red lead to green on regulator then touched each phase.
.478
.478
.47

Other test on video was mutimeter negative to positive on regulator and touch each phase. And should get a reading on each.
I got nothing for all three. Just displayed OL wich he said means broken circuit.

Does this sound like it bad. It does to me but want to be sure. Dont wanna play parts darts.

No sure on reg.
Where it plugs into the stator test any 2 yellow wires( on stator plug) e.g. 1-2,2-3,3-1.
Should be about .5 to 1 ohm. Then test yellow wires to ground should be open circuit.
If all tests ok I would suspect reg.
Put up pic of your stator and reg plug.

So i went and tested what i think you ment. On atv side. Tested yellows togeather. And the multimeter chirped and read 0- 0.001

Then tested negative ( green wire atv side) with the three yellows and got nothing.
( black mutimeter wire on green atv wire. Red on yellows)

Ok so i seen a vid on you tube how to test stator with motor running and i get about 20 volts AC on each leg so i think i can rule out that. Stator is good.

Next I would check if you have 13-14vdc at battery when bike running.
Sus regs do funny things to electrics when bike running.
If you unplug red/green plug with bike running and all lights/fan good I would say reg fault.

So another question will any 3 phase five wire regulator work. The chinese one for it is little over 70 bucks with shipping. If one like the one in pic would work be a lot cheaper and still probly chinese junk lol.

It's fun trying to find the correct parts for those Chinese made atvs. Took me two weeks to find the correct stator and cover. Guy said his son was riding and it threw the chain. Wrecked the cover and pickup mount, part of the stator bracket, part of the stator. First time I've ever pulled a stator and oil dumped out. Crank seal is pressed into stator assy..
