I love reading the arguments over best gun oil, best bore solvent, best grease, etc. I'm on a forum for 1911 owners, and I see it a lot. Sort of reminds me of the arguments on Bob Is The Oil Guy forum over the best motor oil for cars. Let's face it - how many people do you know who experienced a gun failure because they used good ole Hoppes instead of the latest fad that costs nearly $20 for a little bottle?

I can tell you I WONT use rem-oil on anything I care about. Near zero rust protection in my experiences. Big fan of Break-Free CLP and Ballistol here. Also Frog-Lube. Hoppes #9 for general powder fouling, Sweets 7.62 for nasty copper fouling.

My magic formula for my .45 ACP: Dip the swab in Ballistol, then spray carb cleaner on it. Repeat. You're clean.

break free CLP for the win. if you got an inspection then dip that entire rifle (minus hand guards and sling) in Tri Tric one rinse your arms off to prevent the cancer and then carefully apply the proper amount of CLP.

Hoppes, CLP, Ballistol...

And always, always wipe down a weapon, scope, wooden/syn stock, etc after using it/cleaning it, with silicone spray and a silicone/reel cloth!

I need to go back and find the gun and knife oil thread I started. I've been using kroil and seafoam deep creep for cleaner lately. Slip 2000 ewl and lucas extreme duty for lube.

I get bombarded with ads for Shootr Lube on IG and FB. Anyone tried it? OR is that the $20 Boutique oil mentioned in the first post? I been out of the game for a bit, but I've used most all the solvents and lubes already mentioned herein.

Gun oil is like 2 stroke oil. Find what works for you and use it. They all work just some better than others. But I highly doubt there is any oil out there that’s going to cause a failure under normal use.
Speaking of gun oil, remember those iconic metal cans of "3_In-1" oil? Now they're plastic. Probably made in the People's Republic of China

I use shooters choice stuff.
1) because they're a local business
2) their lubricants and cleaners have worked well for me for years
But yeah I have friends who use different brands and they all seem to work fine too. It's all personal preference and I personally couldn't care less what the next fella uses in any piece of equipment

Mostly I use 5w-20 synthetic motor oil because it's always available at my house. I will say Shooter's Choice is really good too though.

pro tip: To prevent bottles from leaking. Before you fly, squeeze out as much air as you can from the bottle (think negative pressure), then seal/close it. Now while in the air, the air inside the bottle expands, but it doesn’t expand so much as to force out air/oil etc..

No one uses used motor oil, like they do in $1000+ chainsaws. Amazing! I use Hoppe's, Tri-Flow, Ballistrol and even have 3 in 1 oil in a metal can.
