Anyone heard of a Tondu Chainsaw?

Hi, I’m new to the forum so my apologies if this is posted in the wrong place...
I’m a self employed air compressor engineer in England and for a bit of extra cash (for holidays lol) I buy, fix and maintain petrol engined garden equipment etc. Loving your forum, looks great! Hope I can help in some way.
Anyway, I’ve been given a chainsaw (hopefully the photo has uploaded ok) it looks like the make is a Tondu, but I can’t find anything about these, has anyone heard of them? Or is the logo confusing and says something like Tandy or something? Either way, I have no info on it, it runs great but it’s missing the bar and cog that turns the chain.

Any help would be really appreciated

I say Hi,, from the south coast.. And welcome.... there are a few other UKer's here as well...

As to your question,,, just a pic of the top cover may hinder anyone in identifying the saw... it’s always best give a few more. Ie sides & front as well back handle you may even get asked to take the top off..

It’s probably a China clone/copy. But don’t take my word for it

Edit,,, I just seen the black rubber thing on top 20:1 ratio 5% that’s mineral,,, umm that’s oily and old

Hi and thanks for the reply, yeah it is old, seems a shame to throw it away just because of the cog and bar though. I’ll get some better pics on as soon as I can.
Thanks again

Thanks 3Browns, yeah I searched the brand extensively and found a few Tondu products but no chainsaws and certainly no parts for mine. I’m guessing you can fit a bar from another make of chainsaw to the saw I have but it was the cog I would like to have original part for. I’ll keep searching, maybe I’ll get lucky one dsy

I looked further and found zero as far as history or who would have actually made the saw assuming it wasn’t actually Tondu

Kind of a mystery

I know zero about old saws but maybe some of the older saw aficionados might see it and have an idea if it was made by someone else

Anyway good luck

I would say a cog (drive sprocket thing) is a useable part that needs to be replaced from time to time.. just like a bar and chain.
If you take some pics and measurements. You may find someone just has one sitting around that are the same measurements. And you could order/buy it.

And pics of the saw sides, just maybe someone could tell you it looks like?? Saw

Looks like this to me.

Both seem to have a 10-10 vibe to them.

Oh @Carls421 might want to change them bar nuts to a more traditional type.

Yes. I think it's some small Italy manufacturer stuff. Ive seen one exactly like yours. The brake flag has made in Italy on it.20200102_184500.jpg

Ok, so finally got home and taken some better pics, I’ve removed the chain guard to show the diameter of where the drive sprocket (cog) should be, showing the diameter of the shaft with some verniers.

Also removed the Air filter and cover to try and show the configuration of the insides, does it look familiar to anything else you’ve worked on?

@Dub11 I will be replacing the nuts but want to make sure I can get the other parts first

Once again, thanks everyone

So did you remove the clutch and sleeve bearing and stuffs to photograph the PTO shaft or is the entire drive assembly missing?

Nope, it’s all missing, kind of figured that if I found somewhere that supplied the drive cog, then I’d be able to get the rest of the parts from them too

So is their a pinion gear in the oil pump?
How does that crank stick out?
Are the threads metric?
I wonder if you could get a relative inside diameter of the brake band in the clutch cover?

Just asking to see if some husqvarna or something could be thrown at it.
