Adjustable Timing

Has anyone ever elongated the mounting holes in the ignition coil so the timing could be adjusted?
Did it work?

Wright C-70 saw has the magneto mounted on a pivot that has a link to a lever on the rear handle.

It adjusts timing about 20 degrees.

It’s actually to control kickback at startup.

One wants to avoid 114cc from ripping the starter handle out of ones hand. [emoji31]

I did it on an aftermarket coil to get it closer to the flywheel, not to change timing, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I think my 056 super had slots to adjust timing. Had to elongate them quite a bit when i replaced coil with an 041 and a nova cell.

Some of the older Power Products engines had a kind of a stater plate that rotated the entire points,coil assembly .Interesting because the spark advance setting was referred to in measurements before top dead center .This was equal to around 26-27 ahead in degrees . There might be more that used this design I'm not aware of .

Yes to the original question I have elongated the mounting holes .How much good it actually did I don't know . You've got a window it has to fire within where the the sine wave is near top .That conversation is an entirely different subject though .
