Idk if it is because of it being a strato motor, or the Rev limiter but I have a hard time determining whether my 6100 is 4 stroking or hitting the Rev limiter. I can tell in wood though lol
So I decided to add a tach. I found this one on amazon that is an hour meter as well. I tried to do a clean install however I will have to pick up some black wire ties. So what do you think? To much?20160308_201558.jpg 2016-03-08 20.25.25.jpg

That would be handy. @junkman i believe has one of those same ones. Maybe he could give you some insight on them.

Double sided tape, velcro on tach and velcro on shroud cover (keep it sturdy with vibrations and makes it removable). Route wire through decomp hole to plug wire. Much better way of doing it and much easier to see/read when cutting. Great as hr meters, good as tachs too but for tuning not the best as they are fairly slow to refresh and tuning to no load WOT is......well it is what it is!

I had the same problem with my 372. The coil limiter sounds so similar to four stroking it made tuning WOT a royal pain. I picked up a DTI Fast Tach and I now tune the saw in the cut. Thinking about going your route and mounting one on the saw somewhere.

I have the same tach on just about every saw I have.
They work fine for tuning in the cut and refresh fast enough to do the job.
I like the high RPM recall feature, and I installed mine in the same location

I did consider mounting it on the cover. However the whole cover comes off so I would have to remove it every time I took the cover off to check air filter or cleaning. Then I would have to rout the wire around and back across. I just didn't think I could do as clean of an install and would not be as convenient.

That is awesome. Do they seem to hold up well?. I know on the handle bar there no vibration so it is easy enough to read.

just curious why a tach is needed to tune in the wood? Can't you just tune it by ear in the cut?

I can run it in the wood. But I guess sense this saw was such a big investment I figured the $20 would be a little insurance and a way to keep on eye on things. Plus I want to change oil ratio from 50:1 to closer to 40:1 and I don't want to waist my dealers time just to tune it while I decide on a ratio. So I bought a double d driver and a tach.

Mine has held up just fine, all you have to do is wipe them frequently so you can see what they are displaying

My ear cant tell the difference between 10,000 and 9,800 ............. the tach can.

12.8k and 13.6k sound a lot alike if it's still 4 stroking. When they get to 14.5-15k then it's easier to tell.

My tach wire snapped but is still on the plug and in the tach but not joined together & I have noticed not difference in its function. Seems to work exactly the same. They are good and work well, I have had them drenched in water before and no problems. When they are mounted on the handle sideways do you tilt the saw to read it or do you tilt your head?lolo_O

It is actually not bad to read.
Looks like it works good. :applaudit:

I have one just like it but it isn't mounted yet. I made a small aluminum bracket for mine. I get a pic after I weld it together
