880 is 3002 mount
661 & down (pro saws) is 3003 mount.

you would need the adapter rings to use the 088/880 bars on the 661 & down.

you can not run 3003 mount bars on the 088/880 saw

The OP needs to get a bar from his 500/660 & hold it up against his bar from the 880. Look at the tail (mount). The MS261-661 share the same bar mount. The 880 is bigger and they do not interchange. I'd keep them separate and if you want to run 3/8 chain on the 880, just set it up for that.

Get an adapter to run the 3002 bars on the 3003 saws.

You can run the same bars, they have to be 3002 mount and for saws that use 3003 mounts, just install the adapter rings ................

Ok so here's another idea, can you replace the studs with some from another saw? Or maybe take the existing ones and have them turned down on a lathe to the right size?

I was thinking about this. But I don't have 3002 bar I don't know about the oil hole.

A common repair without using a helicoil is I think an 056 bar stud .At any rate it's an 8 mm stud with a 10 mm on the saw side .

I think that would be a little easier than hogging out the slot and would allow it to be able to go back to a 3003 saw.

The problem is the oiler hole as seen in the picture. 14mm bolts in lathe turned down to 12mm is No problem.

You pretty much have to offset the 12mm bar to line up that hole. It’s easier to use 14mm bars on the others than go this route unless you’re wanting a lightweight 36” for it.

thanks alot for everyone's replies
my thinking was that i only have a 25" for the 880 but got 3/8 bars from 16" all the way to 36" including ripping chains
and just wanted to try and convert the 880 to save having to buy 404 bars etc

i guess i'll just have to spend a load more money :applaudit:
