WANTED 395 low top setup

Won’t work on 395. The low top was designed for the 394 with it’s rigidly mounted intake tract. The flex in the rubber mounted 395 intake tract won’t allow the low top intake horn to press against the top cover for a tight seal. Could you do it? I’m sure you could but it would leak fines most likely.

The elbows for the filter and the carb box itself are different from 394 vs 395 also, I love a low top and tried to get it to work but finally just gave up on it.

I have the 394 parts here if you want to try it, just know it's not bolt in.

Seems like it would require the whole 394 intake enchilada adapted to the 395 carb box?

I wonder if a guy could make make a better seal out of soft-roll foam rubber tubing? I see bulk material of that type available online for automotive applications.

I was looking at the small thin stuff last night for sealing up an air box. The Stihl 361, 460 or 066 type cover could be sealed up and large holes drilled then covered with the waterproof screens to keep it clean.

Thanks to @how57 i think I just need the intake elbow (carbs same?) and a way to seal it.

I think the 395 filter cover clips are too wide for those early 394 low-profile filter covers. They did make a later low-profile cover that used
the wider clips. I can't really tell from the picture which filter cover that is.

Yep. It’s been awhile, but I remember running into that on mine. Can’t remember if I ground them to fit or changed them out

I think they can be changed out - the early 394 filter clips should be the same as 261/262, so they're relatively common.

Bought myself an early 394 low top cover by mistake. It has the narrow clip slots. No use to me really but could trade it for something if someone needs it.

The low top filter assy fits the cyl cover, except for clip width, 10mm clips vs. 8mm slots and the intake elbow.

The high top is letting fines in. Maybe cuz the media is old? Looks ok.

Do you need the 8mm cover?
I can send it out.
If you cut both just right and use a thin strip of aluminum tape covered in epoxy it should work.

Tape on your top cover and test it again. You might have a hole in that filter.
