I'm looking to build one and learn the saw. Don't have five to spend right now. That should go quick for you. Thanks for the offer.

Maybe I should be looking for a 181 281 or 288.
Any to be had that need some serious love, cheap?
I'll take a burnt up saw. It's just for a mill. Stripped bucking spikes holes, missing handle bars, mufflers, busted tails on tank handles don't really matter to me. A rough repairable saw in bad shape is just fine.
Throttle will be remote anyway. Just needs to oil, have a complete as possible starter side, an ignition system would be nice and have a fuel tank. Don't care about the crank or the jug. I would sell them if they are good. Like to find something with most of the parts there. I passed on a few so far. They were good offers to build a felling saw that could be nice and later sold if not wanted anymore. I'm not looking for anything that clean. Plus I only have Stihl parts, no Husky stuff for big saws.

Still learning what fits what in Husky saws over 80cc's.

Been reading some of the big husky saw threads here. Still not sure how far back the 395 style crank goes in other models. Scratches head....hum...

I’ve never heard of a 394 sharing the same crank as a 395. Maybe in really late model production 394’s? There is some overlap in production looking at the IPL’s (2001-present 395 and 1992-2003 394). From what I know the 394 has a different crankshaft that it shares with 288xp. 395 is a different crank with cast in key in the flywheel with a larger big end rod bearing as well supposedly. I’d rather have the 394 bottom end and flywheel for the separate key imho if I had the choice to choose. It’s also easier to find good used 394 crank/flywheels for a reasonable price too.

394 shares the same crank as the 288/281 and it's all the same measurements as the 181 but the 181 cranks where a different forging on the counterbalance.

The 395 is the same crank except for the flywheel side which is a smaller taper, has the provision for the cast in key, and M8x1.0 threads instead of M10x1.0.

Interesting. So, the 181 will be a lighter crank.
Do they all share the same oil pump and drive case side?

Set keys and flywheels isn't even on my radar. Afterthought.

Next question.
It seems to me these models all have different bodywork.
Do they, as in these , 380cd, 480, ?, ?, type saws take the same drive side case and crank as 288-394 or 2100 type?

The 181 crank was heavier and more sharp finish on the edges than the later 281 which had a tighter forging to the finish product.

380/480's would probably have a similar drive side to the 2100 which is the same as the 281/288/394/395. All use similar designed oil pump drives with the exception of how they seal to the pump.
