Morning All. I’m in the process of doing bearings on a 357. I have a couple questions maybe you can help me with. I’m building a worker, not a racer.
A have a mint 359 top end here, would I be doing to the saw a disservice by using the in house made 359 top end?

Crank stuffers. In the event I do use what I got, should I remove or use the stuffing? lol

thanks -Kyle

Stuff the 357 top end, thank me later.
359 ported and not is more of a torque saw where the 57 screams. I guess it’s a personal preference. It would run and cut wood just fine, yes but if you want outright performance, the 57 top end is a much betterer piece. I’ve read at multiple places by multiple builders the stuffed 357 when ported will always beat the non stuffed 59. My .02, keep the stuffing and get an oem tree five seven cylinder to match it.

I have a jonsered 2159 with factory top end and one with a 357 too end without stuffers. The 357 one hasn't been in wood yet so I can comment on power but it definitely has faster acceleration. I'm hoping to put it in wood this weekend so I can comment then.
Both saws have base delete, timing advance and muffler mods.

John, we should get together in the spring, sounds like we have a lot of stuff we could compare in some wood.

Yeah I’ve read up on it and the consensus is to keep it a 357 top end with stuffers I guess. I will keep it stock for now other than a base delete and muffler mod. Be interesting to see how it lines up to my 359 I had CFB port. I can dawg a 20” bar hard with it and it is begging for more. Becoming my new favourite saw.
