Morning guys, A milling mate of mine has this 3120, I’m trying to figure it’s worth. I always said if he was selling it I would think of buying it.. So how rare is this 1989 3120xp, is it even a 1989 model, I can find any info on 3120’s before 1990... Has anyone ever come across one without a choke? This one has a direct to carb primer... and a 300th Anniversary edition sticker which he believes is genuine original.

Here are some pics and vids of the saw. Can anyone identify from the service tag the build year?

Cheers!

according to the serial number that is an ‘89. that recoil sticker is also one that they used during that time, with the orange xp. very nice saw for its age. yes some came without chokes

Cheers for the info bud! What the major differences between the earlies and I guess a new 3120 that you can still get? Which are better, are the new ones restricted due to regs etc? And what would people have over an 880 and this ‘89 3120?

im not a pro on these by any means, but i bet the only differences are small changes made to carburetors over the years. also some differences in what rpm the ignition was limited to. i dont think an 880 has anything over a 3120, but thats just based on slightly biased opinion haha.

I agree with an 880 having nothing over a 3120. If anything a 3120 has the better filtration. I’m tryna talk my mate into keeping this 3120 as he will be wasting a lot of money changing to a new 880. His only gripe is hot start issues, but I am guessing it’s a carb or coil issue.

hot start issues are most likely heat soaking of the carb due to the intake block. i dont know what the mufflers look like on the inside, but making sure it flows freely will help dissipate heat. does his have a hi-speed adjustment? most later ones did not, but i thought earlier ones did. most will say 32:1 for milling, and give it lots of fuel.

just looked at pics, doesnt appear to have hi adjustment. may be worth having that carb modded to deliver more fuel

Should be 89. Just like this builder I sold in past for $100 plus shipping.
